Do the Packers finally have a solidified pecking order at wide receiver?
- WR1: Christian Watson (WR29 in Fantasy Life ranks)
- WR2: Jayden Reed (WR38)
- WR3: Matthew Golden (WR60)
- WR4: Savion Williams
- WR5: Bo Melton
It looks that way after the Packers shipped Dontayvion Wicks off to Philly and let Romeo Doubs sign with the Patriots in free agency. This *should* leave this WR room consolidated around three key parties for the first time in a minute.
Christian Watson profiles as the No. 1 option after being just that upon returning from injury in 2025. It was honestly alarming how athletic and good he looked less than one year removed from tearing his ACL. Last season's WR4 (!) in yards per route run behind only Puka Nacua, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Luther Burden, Watson has some SERIOUS upside—top-15 caliber ceiling—should he manage to parlay last his high-end efficiency with a newfound high-end target total.
Jayden Reed's 2025 was ruined by a September broken collarbone. His current WR4 ADP feels closer to his floor than his ceiling considering his 2023 (WR27) and 2024 (WR43) finishes. Throw in a shiny new three-year, $50.25 million contract in a Packers passing game we believe in, and there's very much reason for optimism here—especially if Reed can satisfy fantasy nerds and virgins and finally get some run in two-TE formations. He's one of my most-drafted receivers in early-summer fantasy drafts.
Matthew Golden made a few splash plays during his rookie season, but man: The history of Round 1 receivers who played 8+ games and failed to reach 500 yards is littered with busts. While many have pointed to the Packers' crowded depth chart as why Golden struggled out of the gate, he actually ran quite hot considering the injuries to Watson, Reed and TE Tucker Kraft. There's a pretty decent gap between Golden's consensus Fantasy Life rank (WR61) and where he's going in early drafts (WR49 Underdog ADP).
Also note: Travis Hunt–err, Bo Melton could perhaps see a bit more run on the offensive side of the ball this season given the aforementioned departures of Doubs and Wicks, but Savion Williams is the more intriguing backup receiver. The 2025 third-round pick has the sort of size (6-foot-4, 222 pounds), speed (4.48-second 40-yard dash) and playmaking ability to warrant the pre-draft Cordarrelle Patterson comps—it'd make sense if LaFleur tried to design the TCU product some more gadgety touches in Year 2. Will this result in consistent fantasy production? Almost certainly not. Could it be fun, anyway? Abso-lutely.
