2026 NFL Draft Prospect Profile For Brenen Thompson

Thompson was a highly-lauded recruit out of Texas in 2022. He signed with the Longhorns but transferred to Oklahoma after receiving minimal playing time as a freshman. He played two seasons for the Sooners before finishing his career at Mississippi State.

The small speedster didn't register a meaningful season until his final one with the Bulldogs. That late breakout hurts, but his 81 yards per game with a 2.71 YPTPA was impressive. He notched a 26% target share and scored six times.

  • Adjusted Career RYPTPA: 29th percentile
  • Targeted QB Passer Rating: 105.3, 52nd percentile

Adjusted Career RYPTPA: Career receiving yards per team pass attempt adjusted for age, strength of schedule, QB play, teammate competition, aDOT, and alignment. Doesn't count games missed.

Thompson's primary role in college was as a field stretcher. His 17.9-yard aDOT falls in the 87th percentile. He saw 59% of his targets come 10-plus yards past the line of scrimmage, well above the average of 48%.

He didn't face many contested targets (12%) in college thanks to his speed, but was far below average when they happened. His contested-catch rate of 35% was well below the average of 43% for prospects since 2018 with an aDOT of 15 or higher. He was average after the catch.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com sees Thompson as a player with legit speed who can stretch the vertical boundary. However, his slight build leads to catch-point issues. He validated his speed at the NFL Scouting Combine, running a blistering 4.26 40-yard dash.

Thompson's closest Super Model comps:

  • Arian Smith

Bottom line: Thompson was a late bloomer in college, who is undersized by NFL standards. He offers pure, unadulterated speed, but struggles in contested situations, which could come more frequently in the NFL. The Rookie Super Model views Thompson as a late Day 3 pick. He is a WR6 for fantasy football.
