DraftKings NFL DFS Picks For Buccaneers vs. Bears Showdown Slate

Jason Cohen examines the DraftKings Sunday Night Football Buccaneers vs. Bears Showdown Slate for Week 9, identifying the best captain picks, flex picks and more.

We’re ending our weekend with a SNF contest between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears. The Bears are home and are currently 6.5-point favorites in a 46.5-point total. This projects to be a good one and an exciting game to end our weekend.

I'm going to be breaking down the DraftKings NFL DFS showdown for this game. First, I'll highlight some players I want to target in the captain spot, who get a 1.5-fantasy-point boost. High-upside players are who I want to target here, and the lower the ownership, the better.

I will then break down some flex position plays that I like to round out your lineups. Let's dive into it!

DraftKings Week 9 DFS Buccaneers vs. Bears Captain Picks

D'Andre Swift | RB | CHI ($15,000)

D'Andre Swift is the first captain pick that I want to mention. He is coming off of a huge touchdown game on Monday night against the Seahawks, rushing for 69 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries, with all three scores coming in the second half. It wasn't efficient, with 2.6 yards per carry, but 27 carries shows how much the Bears trust him as the lead back.

Chicago is a home favorite, and the best game script for Swift is the Bears getting out to a lead and leaning on the ground game. The Bears have the most total yards in the NFL, and a lot of that offense is going to finish with a Swift touchdown at the goal line. He projects as the most optimal captain right now

Caleb Williams | QB | CHI ($16,200)

Next, I'm going to mention Caleb Williams. He is playing some of the most efficient football of his career since coming back from his hamstring injury. Against the Seahawks, he went 24-of-34 for 247 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions, the most yards allowed by the Seattle defense to a quarterback this season.

The Bears have scored 31, 30 and 34 points in his three games since returning, and they haven't trailed at any point in those games. Williams spreads the ball around to Luther Burden, Rome Odunze and Colston Loveland, which keeps a lot of the pass catchers' ceilings capped, so I like getting to Williams at captain over any one receiver. He is a safe captain choice for a showdown where Chicago is a 6.5-point favorite.

Kenneth Gainwell | RB | TB ($7,200)

My contrarian captain pick for this showdown is Kenneth Gainwell. He never had more than five carries in any of the first six games, but he has exploded in the last two weeks, with 88 yards on 14 carries against the Panthers and then a career-high 140 yards on 25 carries against the Falcons. Gainwell has 228 rushing yards over those two games, averaging 5.6 yards per carry.

Bucky Irving is still the lead back, with 27 carries for 170 yards last week, but Gainwell has clearly earned a bigger role, and he is a real threat in the passing game too, with 12 catches for 61 yards and a touchdown on the season. Most Bucs builds are going to land on Irving or Mayfield, so getting to Gainwell at captain is a nice way to get different. The Bucs should be playing from behind, which greatly benefits Gainwell.

DraftKings SNF DFS Buccaneers vs. Bears Flex Picks

Baker Mayfield | QB | TB ($9,600)

To start off flex plays, I'm going to mention Baker Mayfield. The last two games have been ugly, as he went 7-of-11 for 64 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers and then was 0-for-3 against the Falcons in a rainstorm, when Tampa Bay won without completing a pass. That was all weather and game script.

Mayfield is now practicing fully with the thumb injury that kept him out for three games, and the Bucs are going to have to throw the ball to keep up with a Bears offense that is averaging more than 30 points per game. Tampa Bay is a 6.5-point underdog, which should lead to a lot more passing, and Mayfield also adds a little bit with his legs.

Colston Loveland | TE | CHI ($7,800)

Colston Loveland is a pass catcher that I love to round out lineups. Last week he caught seven of his nine targets for 65 yards against the Seahawks, tying Luther Burden for the team lead in targets. He had a fumble, but it didn't hurt his role in the offense.

The Bears are going to be spreading the ball around, but Loveland is the one who is getting the targets over the middle and in the key third-down situations. He is a great piece to pair with a Williams captain. He will be highly owned, so in GPPs I may lean toward a lower owned piece.

Cade Otton | TE | TB ($4,000)

The best projecting value play on the showdown, Cade Otton is going to round out my flex plays. He has 19 catches for 186 yards through eight games and hasn't scored yet, but he has been on the field for almost every offensive snap. He was on the injury report with a thumb injury, but had full practices all week.

With the Buccaneers likely having to throw more in this game, I expect Otton to get back to a normal target share. It's a very thin floor after the last two weeks of the offense not throwing the ball, but with a touchdown, he is an easy way to save salary and get to the stars at the top.
