Bears vs Seahawks Picks, Odds, Predictions, and Player Props for MNF Week 8
Kody Malstrom breaks down the Week 8 MNF matchup between the Bears and Seahawks from a betting perspective, including a prop bet on D'Andre Swift.
With the NFC littered with teams capable of making a run to the Super Bowl, the margin for error is slim, heightening the excitement whenever two contenders are locked into battle. While it may not be an elimination game, Monday night’s matchup between the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks will shake up the field.
Chicago Bears vs Seattle Seahawks Betting Odds For Week 8
- Spread: Seahawks -3 (-115, FanDuel)
- Moneyline: Seahawks (-165, theScore Bet)
- Game Total: 46.5 (Over -108/Under -112, BetMGM)
Since making his return from injury, Caleb Williams has been able to get the Chicago Bears back on track, rattling off two wins in a row. Williams' performance against the New England Patriots was impressive, throwing for 308 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 66.67% of his passes.
While the Bears' odds of making the playoffs have steadily climbed, Seattle has some work to do, currently sitting outside the playoff picture. Even during Seattle’s turbulent start to the year, the defense has been dominant, rivaling the Minnesota Vikings for first in DVOA and in EPA allowed per play.
With negative regression looming large over the Bears' offense, oddsmakers believe Seattle will be able to build on their momentum and secure a pivotal win, listing the Seahawks at -3. Bettors are in agreement with the opener, steaming Seattle up to -3.5 in some sportsbooks.
Prediction & Pick For Chicago Bears vs Seattle Seahawks Week 8 Matchup
- The Pick: Bears Team Total u21.5 (-111, Caesars)
After struggling to find his footing in his rookie campaign, Caleb Williams has taken massive strides with his play under center, ranking near the top of the board in QB EPA per play, CPOE, and success rate. When under duress, Williams has also been able to successfully scramble out of the pocket and extend plays with his legs, averaging 5.3 yards per carry.
Unfortunately for Williams, the Seahawks' ability to collapse the pocket with just the defensive line will allow the defense to shade linebackers to the flats, giving the back end extra bodies in coverage while clogging the Bears' QB running lanes. When Williams is forced to throw under pressure, the amount of havoc in his passes will increase, leading to an uptick in turnover-worthy plays.
D’Andre Swift will also struggle to pull defensive attention to the box while trying to run up the middle of a defense that ranks in the top 3 in rush EPA allowed per play and in success rate. With no clear path for success, the Bears will be vulnerable to stalling out early in the drive, keeping the offense out of scoring position.
When Williams is held to an early out, the Seahawks will be able to control the time of possession by methodically moving the ball on a Bears defense that ranks 18th overall in DVOA and in weighted EPA allowed per play. Place a wager on the Bears to be held under the team total at 21.5 with a stop point at the key number of 21.
Best Player Prop Bet For Chicago Bears vs Seattle Seahawks
D’Andre Swift - Longest Rush u13.5 Yards (-110, Bet365)
While Williams has been able to thrive, Swift has shockingly struggled to capitalize on the extra space the Bears' QB provides, ranking in the bottom half of the board in percentage of carries exceeding expected yards. Even though Swift was able to run for 78 yards in the Bears' win over the Patriots, he was held to minimal gains on each carry, averaging just 3.5 yards per attempt.
In a daunting matchup against Seattle, the defensive line’s pressure in the trenches will slow Swift down in the backfield, forcing the Bears' RB to fight off contact before he is able to reach the line of scrimmage. With extra bodies crashing down in the interior, Swift will struggle to reach the second level, plummeting his probability of creating an explosive play. Kyle Monangai may also make his return from injury, potentially chipping away at Swift’s usage rate.
