Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings Early Look: Christian Watson Primed To Pop ... Again

Joe Metz highlights a trio of the biggest standouts in Matthew Freedman's early Week 6 fantasy football rankings.

Published Updated

The first bye week is behind us, and we have four more teams getting the week ahead off with some key players (namely the Lions) riding the pine. With so much star power absent from the Week 6 fantasy football rankings, let's take an early look at a trio of early standouts in Freedman's initial set of ranks.

Early Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings Standouts

Christian Watson | Packers | WR3

If you leaned into the drumbeat surrounding the Packers' passing game this offseason, congratulations—you're sitting on a legit WR1 if you have either Christian Watson or Matthew Golden after drafting them as massive values in the summer.

Watson currently edges out Golden in yardage (474 to 397) and holds the advantage in the TD department (7 to 2), but actually ranks second on the team in target share (22%), targets per route run (0.23), routes (84%) and aDOT (13.9).

The thing is, it hasn't mattered.

With how much Jordan Love is dropping back, Watson is still seeing elite usage (89 Utilization Score) and ranks as the PPR WR3 (21.9 PPG) through the first five weeks. Heading into a Sunday Night Football matchup against a Cowboys defense surrendering big plays galore and a +2.5 fantasy boost to wide receivers. He has a legitimate shot to post a WR1 overall finish in Week 6.

Malik Nabers | Giants | WR5

There's still reason for long-term skepticism with Malik Nabers given the non-zero chance we see J.J. McCarthy at the helm this season, but at least for one more week, we get to see him operate with Jameis Winston under center. And, on top of that security, it's clear that Nabers is rounding into full health, having notched route participation rates of 91% and 97% over the last two weeks.

His Utilization Score of 100 in Week 5, along with his 36% target share, 0.31 targets per route run, 44% air yard share, and 40% end-zone target rate point to the elite upside he brings to the table when healthy. Against a leaky Saints secondary as 1.5-point home favorites, Nabers should be fed early and often in what's projected to be a back-and-forth affair. He's locked and loaded as a mid-range WR1 in Week 6.

Woody Marks | Texans | RB23

With David Montgomery going down with an injury in Week 5, Woody Marks saw season-high utilization across the board.

  • Snaps: 84%
  • Rush Attempts: 60%
  • Routes: 75%
  • Targets: 13%
  • Utilization Score: 80

His 10.5 PPR points left a lot to be desired, but still positioned him for a back-end RB2 finish with meat left on the bone. The Jaguars defense is a stingy one, allowing only 16.6 PPG to the RB position and a -2.1 fantasy boost (24th). That said, they've allowed the eighth-most receiving yards per game to running backs (39.6), and their 6 receptions per game allowed to the position is the second-most in the NFL, which is right in Marks' wheelhouse.

If Montgomery is out, Marks profiles as an RB2 with a decent floor in a game where he should be rather game-script independent.

More standouts in the early Week 6 rankings: Jaylen Warren (PIT, RB9), Rhamondre Stevenson (NE, RB14), Denzel Boston (CLE, WR19), Isaiah Likely (NYG, TE4), Drake Maye (NE, QB4), Jalen Hurts (PHI, QB16)
