Los Angeles Chargers Fantasy Football Team Preview For 2026
Ian Hartitz
Things were looking up for the Chargers ahead of the 2025 season. After all, Year 1 of the Jim Harbaugh-Justin Herbert partnership led to the franchise's second-best regular season in 15 years, the young, ascending offensive line looked ready to become a plus for the first time in a minute and the Jesse Minter-led defense looked capable of holding its own with just about anyone.
And guess what: High preseason expectations looked warranted after the Chargers opened up the season with three straight victories against the rest of the AFC West. Sadly, stud LT Rashawn Slater (patellar tendon) was lost for the season in August, so the additional loss of Joe Alt (ankle, played just six games) was simply too much for this offense to recover from.
Herbert and the passing game still had some occasional highs, and the defense was indeed very solid, but all in all, this team was far closer to good than great by the time they took a season-ending L to the Patriots in the Wild Card Round.
2026 Fantasy Football Team Preview for the Los Angeles Chargers

Good news: The Chargers' various injured parties have had all offseason to get right, and the offensive line looks poised to maybe, just maybe, be a strength. Consider:
- Slater and Alt are fully expected to be good to go for Week 1, leaving the Chargers on the short list for the league's best tackle tandems.
- The team spent up in free agency to address the interior of the line with former Commanders C Tyler Biadasz and ex-Dolphins G Cole Strange. Additional dollars were spent on former Ravens badass, block-first TE Charlie Kolar.
- Florida C Jake "Sgt." Slaughter was selected with the 63rd overall pick.
Throw in the speedy additions of ex-Ravens RB Keaton Mitchell and Mississippi State WR Brenen Thompson, as well as the A+ hire of ex-Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel as the new offensive coordinator, and there's a LOT of reason to be optimistic about this squad ahead next season.
What follows is a fantasy-focused team preview of the Los Angeles Chargers ahead of the 2026 season. Make sure to check out Fantasy Life's rankings hub for updated player ranks all year long.
As always: It's a great day to be great.
Is Justin Herbert a dark-horse candidate to post a top-3 fantasy finish?
- QB1: Justin Herbert (QB8 in Fantasy Life ranks)
- QB2: Trey Lance
- QB3: DJ Uiagalelei
Well, Herbert is one of just 10 QBs ever with multiple career seasons averaging north of 22 fantasy points per game, so the ceiling is certainly there. The man has a 5,000-yard passing season to his name, and his QB10 finish in fantasy points per game last season was heavily aided by a career-high 498 rushing yards.
It'd make sense if better health from both the offensive line and Herbert himself (broke his left hand in Week 13), combined with an improved scheme courtesy of new OC Mike McDaniel, leads to bigger and better things for this passing game.
How does Herbert stack up with other top fantasy QBs?
Is Omarion Hampton a trap at the Round 1-2 turn?
- RB1: Omarion Hampton (RB12 in Fantasy Life ranks)
- RB2: Keaton Mitchell (RB55)
- RB3: Kimani Vidal (RB64)
Early drafts have Hampton as part of the eight-RB tier that stretches from picks 11 through 18.
The bull case for this …
- Talent: Hampton was drafted in the first round for a reason: The North Carolina product combines great size (5-foot-11, 221 pounds) with plenty of speed (4.46-second 40-yard dash) and is very capable at catching passes (32 receptions in nine regular-season games).
Hampton may be a year late on his breakout
Are both Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston primed for big seasons?
- WR1: Ladd McConkey (WR22 in Fantasy Life ranks)
- WR2: Quentin Johnston (WR50)
- WR3: Tre Harris (WR90)
- WR4: Brenen Thompson
- WR5: Keandre Lambert-Smith
I could see it. Ladd McConkey had 1,346 receiving yards in 17 games (including playoffs) as a rookie. That's the sixth most among ANY rookie in the Super Bowl era! Sure, the encore wasn't quite as cool (821), but there is that great rookie season in the back of our memories. And for QJ, we've seen growth since a drop-filled rookie season. Now we just want to see it all come together at the same time with McDaniel calling the shots for the offense.
Look out for Ladd and QJ in 2026
Does Oronde Gadsden still have big-time upside with David Njoku in town?
- TE1: Oronde Gadsden (TE16 in Fantasy Life ranks)
- TE2: David Njoku (TE30)
- TE3: Charlie Kolar
Gadsden blew up fantasy football with 7-68-0, 7-164-1, 5-77-1 and 5-68-0 receiving lines in Weeks 6-9 … before averaging just 27 yards per game the rest of the way. Again, the offensive line injuries didn't help, and we saw similar dropoffs everywhere, but unlike with the offense's wide receivers, we now have more direct competition at hand for Gadsden, not less.
Can Gadsden find enough targets to be fantasy relevant?
Predictions for the 2026 Los Angeles Chargers
Win total prediction: Jim Harbaugh has won 13, 11, 12, 8, 11, and most recently 11 games in six seasons as an NFL head coach. The loss of defensive mastermind Jesse Minter certainly isn't ideal, but there's at least some reason for optimism that new DC Chris O'Leary, who was the Chargers' safeties coach in 2024, won't try to overfix a system that isn't broke. Throw in my aforementioned enthusiasm for this offense, and I'm taking OVER 10.5 wins. At the risk of looking VERY stupid (per usual), wouldn't an all-Los Angeles Super Bowl in February 2027 be kind of cool?
Bold fantasy call: The Chargers finish the season first in scoring, leading Herbert, Hampton, Mitchell, McConkey and Johnston alike besting their ADP.
Last season predictions: OVER 9.5 wins (hell yeah, brother), and Ladd McConkey emerges as fantasy's highest-scoring second-year WR in half-PPR scoring (in terms of total, not per-game, half-PPR points—this somehow actually hit).
