Kenneth Walker Fantasy Football Stock With Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes Get Top RB, Zach Charbonnet Now Seahawks' RB1

The best running back available on the open market has a new home: Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs on a three-year, $43.05 million deal.

The timing couldn't have been better for Walker to fetch a bag in free agency. Credit to the electric talent for posting 221-1,027-5 rushing and 31-282-0 receiving lines during the 2025 regular season despite operating in an evenly split committee with Zach Charbonnet. His clutch playoff performances sealed the deal on his awesome season.

Kenneth Walker Signs With the Kansas City Chiefs: The Fantasy Football Fallout

Anyone who has followed Walker over the years knows just how tough it is to get the man on the ground. The artist known as K9 is among the league's most skilled players at making something out of nothing and has accordingly ranked inside the position's top-2 players in tackles avoided per carry in each of the past three seasons.

While the ability to break tackles at a high rate is objectively good, the one flaw with Walker's game is his tendency to forgo singles in the pursuit of home runs. This can be seen by looking at success rate, which measures how often an RB successfully picks up ample yardage depending on the down-and-distance:

  • 2022: 39.9% success rate (33rd among 33 qualified RBs)
  • 2023: 46.6% (24/35)
  • 2024: 44.4% (26/31)
  • 2025: 43.9% (30/33)

Still, Walker wasn't exactly operating behind world-class offensive lines in Seattle. In fact, this Seahawks offense really wasn't very fantasy-friendly for its RBs, as they posted lowly ranks in percentage of carries against 8+ defenders in the box (30th), yards before contact per carry (20th) and target rate (27%).

Add it all together, and even the less-than-stellar 2025 Chiefs represented a pretty solid upgrade in terms of my RB supporting cast rating metric that takes into account those aforementioned metrics as well as rank in points per drive.

A true return to peak form from Patrick Mahomes and company in 2026 could really position Walker for his biggest and best regular season yet.

Chiefs RBs in 2025:

  • Yards per carry: 3.7 (30th)
  • Yards after contact per carry: 2.6 (31st)
  • Tackles avoided per carry: 14% (31st)
  • Explosive run rate: 3% (32nd)

Accordingly, Walker is going to be a sought-after fantasy commodity in 2026 drafts. The man was already going as the RB14 off the board in way-too-early sicko Underdog Fantasy Drafts. A true optimist could probably point to overall RB6 territory alongside De'Von Achane and James Cook as the ceiling here.

Personally, I'm settling Walker in as that RB6 for the time being:

  • We know Walker is talented enough to handle a three-down workhorse role
  • The Chiefs' scoring upside is up there with any offense in the league, and definitely beats out squads like the Dolphins (De'Von Achane) and Raiders (Ashton Jeanty)
  • The money attached to this deal makes it incredibly likely that Walker is unleashed as a true bell cow

Additional offseason moves at RB could change things, but for now it's hard to argue that landing with the Chiefs presents Walker with his best-case outcome ahead of the 2026 fantasy season.

As for the Seahawks: Don't be surprised if they make a splash sooner rather than later to find a new backfield mate for Zach Charbonnet, who is a candidate to miss early-season action after tearing his ACL during the team's Divisional Round win over the 49ers.
