Colston Loveland Setting His Sights On Fantasy Football TE1
Ian Hartitza breaks down the Chicago Bears tight ends, a group highlighted one of the bright stars in fantasy football, Colston Loveland.
The signs were there early, as Colston Loveland's utilization score climbed on a weekly basis. Then what happened at the end of the season—during fantasy championship week for those lucky enough—and during the playoffs announced that the Michigan product had arrived as one of the top tight ends in the NFL and fantasy football. Can he be the overall TE1? Ian Hartitz breaks it down as part of his Chicago Bears Team Preview.Â
Is Colston Loveland poised to compete for an overall TE1 finish?
- TE1: Colston Loveland (TE3 in Fantasy Life ranks)
- TE2: Cole Kmet
- TE3: Sam Roush
Colston Loveland's rookie campaign might have started slow, but man, oh man, did the Michigan product get going down the stretch:
- Week 17: 6 receptions-94 yards-1 TD (10 targets)
- Week 18: 10-91-1 (13)
- Wild Card: 8-137-0 (15)
- Divisional Round: 4-56-0 (10)
Overall, Loveland's 48 targets during this stretch were 21 more than Caleb Williams' next-most targeted receiver (Luther Burden). Rome Odunze was indeed sidelined for two of these games, but still: That's a pretty f*cking crazy stat right there!
There's potential for the second-year TE to work as the No. 1 pass-game option inside this offense. That's a scary thought considering the company Loveland finds himself in when looking at his per-route efficiency.

Loveland is Fantasy Life's consensus TE3 and looks capable of perhaps challenging for overall TE1 honors as early as this season. He's a quality Round 4-5 pick being priced after the top-19 RBs and top-22 WRs in early Underdog drafts.
Also note: Loveland's ascension didn't exactly lead to Cole Kmet playing fewer snaps; the Bears simply wound up running the league's second-most total plays using 12 personnel. Still, the somewhat-surprising decision to use a third-round pick on Stanford TE Sam Roush adds a level of doubt to Kmet's role in 2026. Kmet has $0 guaranteed left on his contract and could be a cut/trade candidate should the Bears feel good about the rest of their tight end room.
