Brenton Strange Is A Late-Round TE To Target

Ian Hartitz checks in on the Jacksonville Jaguars tight ends, and if Brenton Strange can be a late-round gem in fantasy football.

Let's conveniently put in the back of our minds that the Jacksonville Jaguars selected a TE in the 2026 NFL Draft. That's because we have a clear leader in the TE room, and that's Brenton Strange. If there's a question, let's just follow the money. Could we be looking at a player who is going to be a late-round target in fantasy drafts this year? Ian Hartitz breaks it down as part of his Jacksonville Jaguars Team Preview.

Is Brenton Strange low-key a great late-round TE dart?

Well, the Jaguars suddenly have 48 million reasons to make sure they keep Mr. Strange plenty involved in the game plan. That's good for the seventh-highest contract value of any player at the position, although the presence of Cole Kmet and Pat Freiermuth in that group reflects the reality that money doesn't always equal fantasy points at tight end.

Still, Strange averaged 11.1 PPR points per game (TE12) in Weeks 12-18 upon returning from a hip/quad injury. The former second-round pick is a twitchy athlete for a man his size and has put together some quality underlying receiving metrics during his two seasons as the Jaguars' starting tight end:

Brenton Strange among 31 tight ends with 100+ targets in 2024-2025 seasons:

  • Yards per route run: 1.61 (10th)
  • Yards per target: 8.4 (6th)
  • Targets per route run: 19.2% (17th)
  • Passer rating when targeted: 115.3 (8th)

The problem with getting too excited here is the reality that not one, not two, maybe three, and possibly four Jaguars wide receivers figure to be ahead of Strange in the total targets department this season. Tuten will also see his fair share of pass-game opportunities. This makes Strange's path to high-end fantasy relevance awfully touchdown-dependent relative to most at the position.

And hey, Strange is just the TE19 (pick 153.1) in early best ball drafts: The man is not expensive, and accordingly is firmly in the late-round dart mix. Still, I prefer guys like Isaiah Likely and Chig Okonkwo a round or two earlier thanks to their respective potential to work as their offense's No. 2 pass-game option.
