How To Value The 1.03 In 2026 Dynasty Rookie Drafts: Draft Fernando Mendoza or a WR?

Jonathan Fuller analyzes the value of the 1.03 in dynasty fantasy football rookie drafts, including whether to draft Fernando Mendoza or a WR like Jordyn Tyson.

Welcome to the third edition of the dynasty rookie draft valuation series. If you’re new, these articles are meant to determine a median value for each first-round rookie draft pick in 2026. If you didn’t read the first two articles, you can find them here:

As I’ve mentioned before, one of the challenges of this type of analysis is that no two dynasty leagues are the same and every league will have its own unique trade market. Some leagues have very active trade markets where managers rarely retain their own rookie picks. In other leagues, any trade involving a first-round rookie pick is major news. You know your league best and have to calibrate the value of each pick accordingly.

How to Value Pick 1.03 in Dynasty Rookie Drafts?

This pick is going to be a WR in at least 90% of single-QB dynasty leagues, maybe higher. The only question is who goes off the board with the second pick and who you like most among the remaining WRs.

Carnell Tate, Makai Lemon and Jordyn Tyson are generally viewed as similar values at this point in the offseason. The result of the NFL Draft, both in draft capital and landing spot, may reshuffle the consensus rankings of those three, but I would be surprised to see any of them drop out of this tier.

In superflex leagues, there is a chance Fernando Mendoza is here, which makes for an interesting decision. Similar to the 1.02, he isn't as strong of a prospect as the WR you could take, but the positional premium for QBs will help him hold significant trade value for years to come and his floor is reasonably high. If you need help at the QB position I don't mind taking him here.

How does the value of the 1.03 change for 1-QB vs. Superflex Leagues?

Similar to the 1.02, the 1.03 definitely benefits from Mendoza adding to the second tier of players behind Jeremiyah Love. The value of Mendoza relative to the WRs will be heavily influenced by the results of the NFL Draft and how excited dynasty managers are about the WR landing spots, but the 1.03 should be relatively insulated because there will almost certainly be someone available here who all dynasty managers would be excited to add to their team.

On draft day, QB needy teams might look to move up and the further Mendoza falls the more teams might consider making an offer. If he is already off the board when this pick comes up, that means the top WR on everyone's board is still available, which still makes this a premium pick. Either way, there should be a good amount of demand for this pick in both league formats, with superflex getting the Mendoza bump to make it even more valuable.

What’s the 1.03 worth when trading for veterans?

The consensus opinion is that the 1.02-1.04 (or 1.05 in superflex) range is a pretty flat tier so the value shouldn't decline much as each pick goes off the board. A lot of the same veterans that I mentioned in this section for the 1.02 are still in play with names like A.J. Brown, Kenneth Walker, Ladd McConkey, Rashee Rice and Breece Hall all valued around the rookie WRs who are expected to be available with this pick. In superflex, QBs like C.J. Stroud and Dak Prescott would be in that range as well.

The decision to trade a rookie pick for a veteran player should primarily come down to how close your roster is to being competitive. If you can compete in 2026, there is nothing wrong with adding a productive older player to make a championship push. If you are going to go that route, just make sure all your other decisions align with that goal as well.

What’s the 1.03 worth when trading for picks?

Again, for many dynasty managers the 1.03 and the 1.02 will be very close in value. I think the fair value to trade down should be a late 2026 first plus a 2027 first. Depending on league format and who wants the trade more, one side might need to throw in a sweetener. This is the kind of deal that could work out for both sides and shouldn't cause any outrage in the league group chat.

Personally, I am willing to trade down to the late first because I like some of the prospects that should be available there. If you feel differently about those players, trading down a few spots to grab KC Concepcion or the top TE is another viable option, but won't net you anywhere near as much in extra pick value. You are probably looking at adding a 2026 second as fair value to move down three or four spots.

The final verdict

I continue to like the idea of trading down from the top picks this year. I reserve the right to change that opinion if all three of the top WRs in this class get great landing spots, but more than likely we won't be excited about where one or two of them are drafted. That will close the value gap between them and lower-rated prospects who land in much better situations.

If you agree with that idea, exploring opportunities to trade down before the NFL Draft is probably a smart idea. We are quickly running out of time to make that happen, but the excitement for rookie drafts should only pick up as the NFL Draft gets closer so early next week might be the prime time to make a trade.

In superflex, the decision should really come down to the state of your roster. If you are in a full rebuild, take the QB and add a potential decade-plus starter to your roster. This will give you the most flexibility and retain the most value over the next couple years if you do need to pivot. For managers who have a roster that is close to competing, exploring trade options for a veteran QB or proven producer at another position should be on the table.
