Dynasty Superflex 3-Round Startup Mock Draft: Josh Allen Still The 1.01?

Sam Wallace conducts a three-round dynasty fantasy football superflex mock draft, analyzing different draft strategies.

There are so many ways to approach a dynasty superflex startup draft. Do you go QB in Round 1 no matter what? If a few QBs have gone, do you go for the top RBs or WRs that are available early? And when is the right time to break the seal on the elite TEs?

This three-round dynasty superflex startup mock draft is just one of the many strategies out there, and offers a nice mix for those who absolutely want a QB in the first round, as well as for those who want to shop on the top shelf at the other positions.

Dynasty Superflex 3-Round Startup Mock Draft

Round 1

BUF_bills-logo.svg 1.01 - Josh Allen | QB (QB1) | Bills

It's hard to argue against either of these top-2 picks, but personally it's clearly Josh Allen at the 1.01 in dynasty startup drafts. Sure, some of the other QBs are a bit younger and likely offer a longer shelf life at this stage of their career, but there's no replacement for dual-threat ability offered by Allen each week.

If you are blessed with the first overall selection, don't overthink it: draft Josh Allen.

NE_patriots-logo.svg 1.02 - Drake Maye | QB (QB2) | Patriots

In my mind, the only other player who can legitimately challenge Allen for the top spot is Drake Maye. Perhaps a year from now, after Maye enjoys another breakout season thanks to the likely addition of A.J. Brown, we can move Maye into the No. 1 spot.

Even as a "consolation" prize for not getting the top pick, Maye offers years of stability at the most important position in the entire league. Maye offers Allen-lite rushing capability that keeps his fantasy floor high and his ceiling even higher.

SEA_seahawks-logo.svg 1.03 - Jaxon Smith-Njigba | WR (WR1) | Seahawks

The first non-QB has to be none other than Jaxon Smith-Njigba. For the longest time, the boys from LSU held these top spots, but the torch has officially been passed to JSN. He's got the perfect blend of age, production and role in a top-end offense that's coming off a Super Bowl victory.

You can certainly reach on QB3 at this stage, but I am fine pivoting to JSN as the cornerstone of my dynasty roster for the next several seasons.

DET_lions-logo.svg 1.04 - Jahmyr Gibbs | RB (RB1) | Lions

The middle portion of Round 1 is going to be fascinating. I've seen dynasty startup drafts that go QB-heavy in the first round as everyone scrambles to get at least one top-end option. I'm going a different direction with this one and showing some love to my favorite way to build a team:

Single-Elite (Hero) RB.

In this approach, I snag a top-end option and then essentially punt the position for the next several rounds. Players like Jahmyr Gibbs and the next player offer both a high floor of almost-guaranteed production along with a massive ceiling. They don't share touches and exude dominance in both the rushing and passing game.

ATL_falcons-logo.svg 1.05 - Bijan Robinson | RB (RB2) | Falcons

The same argument I laid out for Gibbs applies to Bijan Robinson as well. The Falcons offense is trending in the right direction, and everything they do is going to funnel through Robinson. We could be on the cusp of some truly massive seasons for this talented, young running back.

Don't worry about the shorter shelf-life of RBs. Regardless of the format—redraft, dynasty, etc—we play to win championships and Robinson is more than equipped to help you do just that over the next few years.

WAS_commanders-logo.svg 1.06 - Jayden Daniels | QB (QB3) | Commanders

The Commanders fell off hard last year so this pick might surprise more than a few people. Even so, I am a firm believer in Jayden Daniels as a high-end fantasy asset as he offers the coveted blend of both passing and rushing.

Noticing a trend with these top QBs? The ability to effectively run the ball remains the ultimate cheat code for fantasy football QBs, especially in superflex formats.

CIN_bengals-logo.svg 1.07 - Ja'Marr Chase | WR (WR2) | Bengals

This ranking is not a knock on Ja'Marr Chase; it is simply an acknowledgement of the incredible talent at the top of the NFL pool. After the first two picks, I genuinely feel much of this first round is one big tier. Depending on how you want to build your roster, you can certainly take Chase at the 1.03. In this case, I chose to push the elite tandem of RBs toward the top of this tier. Either way, Chase remains as sure of a thing as there is in fantasy. Barely 26, he remains squarely in his prime.

LA_rams-logo.svg 1.08 - Puka Nacua | WR (WR3) | Rams

The only thing keeping Puka Nacua toward the bottom of this tier is the uncertain future of Matthew Stafford. If the Rams make a deep playoff run this year or win the Super Bowl, there's a real chance Stafford goes out on top—though he did sign an extension through the 2027 season. Regardless, Nucua is still the WR3 of this mock and remains firmly in Round 1.

OAK_raiders-logo.svg 1.09 - Brock Bowers | TE (TE1) | Raiders

Dipping our toes into the TE waters for a moment, there's a clear-cut duo at the top and it's led by Brock Bowers. He's the de facto No. 1 receiving option for the Raiders and should be drafted even higher if you are in a TE Premium scoring league.

BAL_ravens-logo.svg 1.10 - Lamar Jackson | QB (QB4) | Ravens

I don't know if Lamar Jackson will ever get over the playoff hump and make it to the Super Bowl. Apologies to all Ravens fans out there but, in this instance, I don't particularly care. Jackson is an elite talent and offers massive upside in fantasy football. As long as he remains the most versatile, dangerous QB in open space, I'm drafting Jackson onto my dynasty teams.

LAC_chargers-logo.svg 1.11 - Justin Herbert | QB (QB5) | Chargers

I truly hope the Chargers do right by Justin Herbert and take the next step this season. The addition of Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator should mean good things for Herbert, as there's no one who throws a prettier deep ball than him.

The weapons are there. Let's hope the team can finally put it together this year.

DET_lions-logo.svg 1.12 - Amon-Ra St. Brown | WR (WR4) | Lions

Finishing Round 1 with another player from the Lions, Amon-Ra St. Brown remains one of the most consistent wideouts in the game. He's coming off three straight seasons with at least:

  • 115 receptions
  • 1,200 receiving yards
  • 10 TDs

You're telling me I can get that kinda production at the end of Round 1? Maybe I need to move him up a few spots next time. Again, I feel individual roster construction will dictate much of how Round 1 will go. I've seen drafts that include 10 QBs in the first 12 picks and others that only include a few. Depending on your preference, you can build a championship-caliber roster in many different ways.
