I know everyone’s getting excited about redraft season. And rightfully so! But if you think for one second that means we’re kicking dynasty to the wayside, then you’ve got another thing comin’, friend-o.

I took some questions from the wonderful folks in the Fantasy Life Community Discord (which you can join for free) and figured I’d give you all a peek behind the curtain. I’m nice like that sometimes.

How much should we overreact to Carson Beck dominating the powerhouse Panthers' backups and are three future firsts too much of a low-ball offer?

Three firsts for Carson “Future of the Franchise” Beck?? That’s clearly a lowball offer.

OK, we’re obviously joking around here. Because way too many people take preseason games way too seriously.

But I am going to take the contrarian approach to Carson Beck and say there’s potential value here. I don’t know if he’s a good quarterback. But I also don’t know if Jacoby Brissett is locked into his starting role just because he got a meager contract extension. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Beck starts some games this year, so grabbing him for a third or fourth-round rookie pick in Superflex isn’t the worst idea.

Biggest (dynasty) steal?

Your heart?

…No? OK. Then I’ll go with Woody Marks, simply because the fantasy community strapped him to a rocket and jettisoned him into the freaking sun once David Montgomery joined the backfield.

I understand Montgomery is undoubtedly an upgrade to the mess the Texans had last year. But there’s a sizable pass-catching role still up for grabs, and Marks was THE best pass catcher in his rookie class.

Who are trade values for WRs and RBs?

Biggest value at RB (besides Marks): Kenneth Gainwell. I rarely invest in superstar running backs in dynasty. I’d rather grab some short-term rentals with high upside. Gainwell fits that bill, even if Bucky Irving is able to stay relatively healthy.

Biggest value at WR: Garrett Wilson. How is this man WR17 on KeepTradeCut?? Blasphemous. All he’s done is put up 1,000-yard seasons playing with quarterbacks that most teams wouldn’t trust to make their own sandwiches.

This is the cheapest he’s ever been and it behooves you to take advantage of that.

I am angling to trade for either Garrett Wilson or Chris Olave. I roster Geno Smith as a potential QB2 ... does that tip the scales toward Wilson for you?

I don’t put much stock into QB stacks in dynasty, though it can occasionally be a useful tiebreaker.

I obviously love Wilson, who might be the most underrated receiver this planet has ever seen, but I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here, depending on their respective costs. Both should remain the focal point of their offenses, despite inheriting some target competition via the draft.

My redraft leagues are starting to get reactivated and my brain is in dynasty mode! Am I right to think that Ashton Jeanty is better for dynasty and Derrick Henry is better for redraft?

As much as I’d love to see Derrick Henry steamroll defenders well into his 40s, we’re probably nearing the end of his fantasy road.

Ashton Jeanty may never reach Henry’s fantasy heights, but he should be a near-elite asset for many years to come.

So short answer: You are correct!

Cyrus Allen: Mahomes' new favorite target or bust?

The Chiefs don’t care what round a receiver was drafted in. If their QB likes him, he’ll get on the field.

So the smoke coming from training camp about Cyrus Allen is worth monitoring. I expect the Chiefs offense to return to its explosive ways with the return of Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator, and there’s plenty of room for a young guy to step up.

What do we do with Tyreek Hill?

Say goodbye. When an old receiver says he has “no power” in his left leg, I take that as my queue to move on.

I am looking to add a contributing RB to a best ball dynasty team. The commish has Kenneth Walker and I think would trade him to me, but for a painful cost. The last-place guy has Quinshon Judkins and I think I can get him as part of a package deal that will also add depth at other positions. Worth it to go after Walker? Or do we expect Judkins to be a contributor this year despite the Browns of it all?

I’m admittedly lower that most on Quinshon Judkins due to A) Low scoring opportunities in an offense that has no idea what it’s doing at QB, and B) His lack of pass-catching opportunities.

On the flip side, the Chiefs made a significant investment at RB for the first time in a VERY long time. I expect a big couple years from Kenneth Walker.

But again, I rarely pay up for running backs in dynasty. So my answer is probably to look elsewhere.
