FanDuel NFL DFS Plays For Week 5's Main Slate: Build Around DET-ARI Chalk

Joe Metz breaks down how to approach the Week 5 main slate in your FanDuel NFL DFS contests.

Published

Week 5's Sunday slate brings what feels like the messiest pre-lock injury report of the season, with a laundry list of key players listed as questionable. Because of that, a lot will change between now and lock, so make sure to keep up with the latest Week 5 injury report and coachspeak notes. I'm going to provide my favorite FanDuel NFL DFS picks for Week 5 based on how I expect the final injury reports to shake out given the information available at the time of writing. Stay up to date with our NFL DFS projections until lock to monitor all changes.

In this, I will provide you with my core plays (3) that I am building my single-entry lineup around, as well as my favorite value play (with some honorable mentions) and my favorite lower-owned play for single-entry or small-field, 3-5-max contests (again, with a handful of honorable mentions).

Five plays to build around and a small list of others to include in your player pool. Let's get into it.

Core Plays For The FanDuel NFL DFS Week 5 Slate

Jahmyr Gibbs (RB, DET) - $10,000

Whenever Gibbs is on the main slate, it'll be hard to exclude him from the core plays section, even with FanDuel adjusting his price to a more appropriate level. He has the highest Utilization Score (98) at the position as he finds himself in a true workhorse role (88% rush att., 58% routes, 18% targets) and has averaged 27.0 FanDuel points per game.

The projected game environment is just as perfect, with the Lions/Cardinals game having the highest implied total on the slate (54.5) by 8 points, and the Lions as 5.5-point favorites with a projected 30-point team total in our NFL Betting Game Model. With so much value on the slate, Gibbs is a set-it-and-forget-it play.

D'Andre Swift (RB, CHI) - $6,500

Any worries about a reduction in role for Swift this week because of last week's fumble have been quelled, as Kyle Monangai has been ruled out. This positions Swift for a massive workload with Roschon Johnson as the fill-in RB2.

Before his benching in Week 4, Swift had seen his snap share increase in each game (57% -> 67% -> 70%), along with his share of the rushing attempts (56% -> 57% -> 63%) and routes (24% -> 45% -> 51%). With Monangai out, we're likely to see Swift settle at (or above) his Week 3 numbers against a Packers defense allowing the 5th-highest fantasy boost (+4.2) and 4th-most rushing yards (113.8) to the RB position.

Michael Wilson (WR, ARI) - $6,400

We rarely get a top-10 wide receiver in the $6k range on FanDuel, making Michael Wilson the easiest click on the board behind Gibbs on this slate. Top-10 wide receiver may sound hyperbolic, but in terms of utilization, it's true. Wilson's 29% target rate ranks 7th among all WRs, his 96% route rate ranks 4th, and his Utilization Score of 84 ranks 9th.

He's taken over a true alpha WR role in Arizona and, like Gibbs on the other side of this game, finds himself in the perfect game environment. The WR1 in a voluminous passing game projected for negative game script in a high-total game. He checks every single box on Sunday.

Value Play For Week 5 NFL DFS On FanDuel

Mike Washington Jr. (RB, LV) - $4,900

Ashton Jeanty is listed as questionable for Week 5, and while he hasn't officially been ruled out, his practice trend throughout the week makes me feel very pessimistic that he plays. After a full practice on Wednesday, Jeanty dropped to limited practice on Thursday before sitting out altogether on Friday. Not great! Because of this, I'm assuming he's sitting until we hear otherwise. This would open up a workhorse role for preseason darling Mike Washington, who put up insane athletic measurements at the 2026 NFL Draft Combine. We saw a glimpse of his upside in the preseason, as Washington rushed for 168 yards (4th) on only 23 carries (21st; 7.3 yards per carry) with a 30.4% avoided tackle rate.

With a massive workload and big-play upside, $4,900 feels like a free square. There are pivots to Washington in the high-$5K, low-$6K range if Jeanty is in, but he's the clear punt play if Jeanty is out.

More FanDuel NFL DFS value picks: Tyson Bagent (QB, CHI, $6,700), Aaron Jones (RB, MIN, $6,200), Emanuel Wilson (RB, SEA, $6,000), Braelon Allen (RB, NYJ, $5,900), Luther Burden (WR, CHI, $5,900), Tre Harris (WR, LAC, $5,500), Antonio Williams (WR, WAS, $5,300)

FanDuel NFL DFS Low-Owned Player To Target

Brock Bowers (TE, LV) - $7,800

Bowers likely won't be low-owned (sub-10%), but this is more of a slate-specific low-owned play based on how heavily ownership at tight end is condensing around Trey McBride.

McBride makes sense in cash and single-entry contests as a set-it-and-forget-it play. He's in the same position as Michael Wilson and operates as the WR1 at the TE position for Jacoby Brissett. That said, you can pull a lever and spend $500 more to get Bowers and immediately separate yourself from an ownership perspective and get arguably a higher ceiling with even better Utilization metrics.

  • Bowers: 92% routes, 30% targets, 10.9-yard aDOT, 50% end-zone targets, 100 Utilization Score
  • McBride: 88% routes, 31% targets, 5.8-yard aDOT, 36% end-zone targets, 97 Utilization Score

Both are elite, but the higher ceiling is clear from a player-specific standpoint. The game environment in Week 5 clearly caters to McBride, which has the ownership condensing around him. But with Jeanty potentially out and with the injuries to the Patriots' secondary, I want to sacrifice a bit of my exposure to the DET/ARI game to chase Bowers' ceiling at a fraction of McBride's ownership in at least one of my 3-max builds today.

More low-owned players to target on FanDuel: Sam Darnold (QB, SEA, $7,200), Christian McCaffrey (RB, SF, $8,400), George Kittle (TE, SF, $6,700), Jeremiyah Love (RB, ARI, $6,600), Jaylen Waddle (WR, DEN, $6,600), Matthew Golden (WR, GB, $6,300),
